While intoxicated driving and speeding are a major concern during the winter holidays, there are several other factors that could lead to a serious and even fatal accident. The negligence of a driver no matter how simple or minute could result in a sudden and deadly automobile collision. Whether it is due to winter weather, driver fatigue or distracted driving, there are many factors that could lead to fatal accidents during the winter months.
Authorities in Yellowstone County were recently dispatched to a fatal car crash. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a man traveling on Main Street was struck on the driver’s side of his vehicle by another vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man. The older man, whose age was reportedly 83 or 84, later died from his injuries. The two-car accident occurred in the 600 block of Main Street.
According to preliminary reports, both driver suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital. The older man died in the hospital, but the younger man was treated and released. Investigation is still ongoing but authorities have ruled out intoxication and speeding. While police have not speculated the factors that led to the deadly crash, following investigation, cause and liability will likely result.
The loss of a loved one in a car accident is not only sudden but is also unexpected. Family members could suffer emotionally and financially after the death of a loved one in a car crash. Such burden could be addressed through a civil action such as a wrongful death claim. This could help family member offset expenses related to medical bills, funeral costs and other related damages.
